Welcome To Circle!

About Circle MT

The Town of Circle was named after the circular brand used by the Mabry Cattle Company, which was located along the Redwater River at the Circle Ranch, which was established in 1884. The founder of Circle, Peter Rorvik, arrived in the area in 1905, and opened a store and post office to accommodate the area farmers. The Town of Circle grew considerably after 1909 when homesteaders started arriving in the region. In 1914, when the Great Northern Railway established a new station along the existing route between Lewistown and Sidney, the town moved approximately one-half mile to relocate closer to the station.

The population boom from homesteaders began to decline, and homesteaders began leaving the area, after 1919. Another population surge occurred in 1951 when oil was discovered southeast of Circle; however, that was short lived and lasted only into the 1960s. The Town of Circle remains steeped in agricultural tradition and Montana heritage.
